Sora Hoonoki

Description
Sora Hoonoki is a South Korean manga artist and illustrator known for work across several series, with the anime adaptation of May I Ask for One Final Thing? bringing increased attention to their career. Born on May 7, 1985, Hoonoki has been active in the manga industry since at least 2006, with early work on the series Safe Again Today.

Hoonoki’s role in the industry encompasses both creating original stories and providing illustrations for works authored by other writers. One of the earlier original series credited to Hoonoki as both story and artist is Wannin!, which was published in the shoujo magazine ARIA from 2011 to 2013 and compiled into five volumes. Subsequent original creations include Dorothy wa Gokigen Naname? from 2013 to 2014, Star P - Anata wa Motto Kagayakeru from 2014 to 2015, and Sengoku Vamp from 2016 to 2017. In 2019, Hoonoki worked on The Two Princesses as the artist, contributing illustrations to a series with a different writer.

Hoonoki is prominently credited as the illustrator for the manga May I Ask for One Final Thing?, based on a web novel by Nana Ōtori. The manga began serialization in June 2019 on the AlphaPolis website and has since been compiled into multiple volumes, with the series reaching over 1.40 million copies in circulation by October 2024. The story follows Scarlet, a noblewoman who responds to her public humiliation by demanding the right to physically confront her accusers, a premise that has defined the series’ popularity. An anime television adaptation of this work is scheduled to premiere in October 2025, with production by Liden Films Kyoto Studio. This adaptation marks Hoonoki’s most significant involvement in a major multimedia project to date.

Hoonoki’s artistic identity is closely tied to the fantasy and shoujo genres, frequently contributing to stories centered on strong-willed female protagonists. In 2024, Hoonoki began work on a new series titled Mamahaha no Kokoroe (Stepmother’s Knowledge), serving as the artist with Tooru as the story writer. The continued publication of their existing series and involvement in new projects, alongside the high-profile anime debut of May I Ask for One Final Thing?, underscores Hoonoki’s established and ongoing presence in the manga industry as both a creator of original works and a collaborative illustrator.
