Saka Mikami is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the series The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, also known by its original Japanese title, Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku. Mikami attended a high school with a specialized arts department and later enrolled in the manga program at Yoyogi Animation Gakuin. During the third year of high school, with guidance from a teacher knowledgeable about manga, Mikami submitted a first work to a competition. While in the first year at Yoyogi Animation Gakuin, Mikami received the Special Incentive Award at the 104th Weekly Shōnen Magazine Newcomer Awards from Kodansha for a one-shot titled Zain Jihen. The third one-shot work, Uta no Kurage (Song of the Jellyfish), received the New Talent Award at the 105th Weekly Shōnen Magazine Newcomer Awards. This recognition created an opportunity to begin serializing a full series.

The debut one-shot work, Liebring, was published in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app in December 2019. This was followed by other one-shots including Zain Jihen in October 2020, Koroshiya Maid to Obocchama in November 2020, and Uta no Kurage in February 2021. The ongoing serialization of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity began in Magazine Pocket in October 2021 and is published by Kodansha under the Shōnen Magazine Comics imprint. The series has been collected into multiple tankōbon volumes and is released in English by Kodansha USA Publishing. An anime television series adaptation produced by CloverWorks premiered in July 2025, with Mikami credited as the original creator. The official website for CloverWorks lists Saka Mikami as the original work author for the anime adaptation.

The narrative of The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity centers on students from two neighboring schools with contrasting reputations. The story follows Rintaro Tsumugi from Chidori Public High School and Kaoruko Waguri from Kikyo Private Academy Girls' High School as they navigate a friendship and romance despite the longstanding rivalry between their institutions. Mikami has expressed a personal affinity for youth-oriented stories, noting that the series was conceived following an editor's suggestion to create a青春 (youth) story. In an interview, Mikami stated a desire to draw a manga in which all the characters are kind and has mentioned a preference for contrasts, such as pairing a protagonist with an intimidating appearance with a family-owned cake shop.

Mikami has cited several influences on artistic development. The first manga read as a child was the shoujo series Shugo Chara! by Peach-Pit, and Mikami has also read many shoujo manga published in Nakayoshi magazine. The series Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama is noted as a significant inspiration that brought awareness to the profession of a manga artist, particularly its bittersweet conclusion. Among the achievements, the series The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity secured second place in the sixth TSUTAYA Comic Awards, as chosen by readers. Mikami was also an assistant to Satoru Nii, the creator of the manga Wind Breaker, prior to beginning work on The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity.
