Hisamakumako
Description
Hisamakumako is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator whose professional career spans work in commercial manga, visual novels, and anime production. The creator has used several aliases over the years, including Hisama Kumako, Kumako, moco chouchou, and ri:s. Their published body of work demonstrates a consistent presence in the seinen manga and bishōjo game industries, often focusing on character-driven comedy and slice-of-life narratives.
The creator began serializing the four-panel manga Ichijōma Mankitsu Gurashi! (一畳間まんきつ暮らし!) in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara magazine in December 2018. The story follows a countryside high school girl who moves to Tokyo to attend a prestigious girls' academy, only to find that her tuition-free arrangement requires her to live and work in a manga cafe that doubles as a student dormitory. Houbunsha published the first compiled tankoubon volume in November 2019, with subsequent volumes following in February 2021 and September 2022. In July 2025, it was announced that the manga would receive a television anime adaptation, a milestone the creator acknowledged with a public statement expressing gratitude to the series' supporters and anticipation for the collaboration with the animation staff.
Prior to this ongoing series, Hisamakumako created the original work Yūtōsei Ayaka no Uraomote (優等生 綾香のウラオモテ), which received an OVA anime adaptation and was also commercialized as a novel. This project established the creator's involvement in multimedia franchises where their original concepts are adapted into different formats.
Beyond their own manga serializations, Hisamakumako has maintained an extensive career as an illustrator and character designer for visual novels and adult games. Their credits include serving as the original character designer for the戏画 (GIGA/Entergram) title Kimi no Hitomi ni Hit Me (キミの瞳にヒットミー) in 2017, as well as providing illustrations for the critically recognized game Golden Love letter (金色ラブリッチェ). Additional game credits include Sohi Kano ~gyutto Dakishimete~ and its subsequent animation adaptation, Yakusoku no Natsu, Mahoroba no Yume, and several other titles released between 2015 and 2019.
The creator has also contributed to the anime industry as an illustrator, having produced end cards for television series such as Is the Order a Rabbit? (Gochūsa) and Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest. Their illustration work extends to light novels, anthology comics for series like High School Fleet, and art books. This breadth of work across manga, games, and anime illustrates a professional identity rooted in character-focused visual storytelling, often with comedic or light romantic themes aimed at a seinen demographic.
