The series is published in print by Shinchosha under their Bunch Comics imprint, and as of mid-2024, eight ebook volumes have been released. The story follows Tenka Momose, a high school student who has perfected the art of excelling at everything to protect herself, and her unexpected friendship with a classmate named Erian Sato. In late 2025, it was announced that Girl Crush will receive a television anime adaptation, produced by TBS and Enishiya. The production has been described as the first Japanese TV anime centered on the theme of K-pop. Following the announcement, Tayama expressed her excitement about seeing her characters brought to life through animation, specifically looking forward to seeing the protagonist Tenka singing and dancing.
The manga has seen significant commercial and critical success. The series has over 900,000 copies in circulation, and its Korean-language edition won the New Work of the Year award at the 2021 RIDIBOOKS COMIC AWARD. Tayama maintains a presence on social media under the handles @girlcrush_comic and @tayama310.
