Kazuhisa Sakaguchi
Description
Kazuhisa Sakaguchi, born April 23, 1960 in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese scriptwriter, novelist, lyricist, and producer. He was formerly affiliated with Studio Pierrot and is a member of the Japan Screenwriters' Union.
Sakaguchi is a prolific scriptwriter whose career spans from the late 1980s to the present, with hundreds of episodes of anime to his credit. His early production work included roles such as assistant production manager on series like Ninja Senshi Tobikage and Anmitsu-hime, and as a literature advancement staff member on the 1988 Osomatsu-kun series, for which he also wrote several scripts.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Sakaguchi became a regular writing contributor to numerous long-running and popular television series. He has written dozens of episodes for Nintama Rantarou, contributing to the series from its early seasons as well as the 2024 film Gekijо̄-ban Nintama Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyо̄ no Gunshi. He has also written extensively for Crayon Shin-chan, with credits on more than two hundred episodes. His other major television writing credits include Fushigi Yuugi, You`re Under Arrest, Super GALS!, Midori Days, and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!.
Beyond episodic writing, Sakaguchi has taken on series composition and scriptwriting for complete series such as Haunted Junction and Patta Potta Monta. He has also worked as a producer on series like Heisei Tensai Bakabon and Ore wa Chokkaku.
In a significant expansion of his creative role, Sakaguchi is also a novelist. He authored the novel Rakudai Ninja Rantaro Dokutake Ninja-tai Saikyō no Gunshi, which served as the source material for the 2024 theatrical film of the same name. For this project, he is credited as both the original creator of the novel and the screenwriter for the film adaptation. This marks a notable instance of Sakaguchi originating a story within the established Nintama Rantaro universe rather than only providing scripts for a pre-existing series. He has also worked as a lyricist for anime theme songs, including for Guru Guru Town Hanamaru-kun.
His long and varied career, working on major franchises such as Transformers: Galaxy Force, Zoids, and Reborn!, as well as his contributions to foundational comedies like Osomatsu-kun, establish him as a versatile and consistently employed figure in the industry. However, his direct work as an original literary creator is primarily documented through his novel for the 2024 Nintama Rantaro film.
