Jennifer Mapula
Description
Jennifer Mapula is a Mexican voice actress known for her work in Latin American Spanish dubbing. She was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, and began her artistic training at the age of fifteen at the Centro de Educación Artística (Alcedar) in her hometown, where she specialized in theater. After finishing high school, she moved to Mexico City to study at the Escuela Nacional de Arte Teatral, part of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. Although her initial focus was on stage acting, she later trained in dubbing and commercial voice-over, a field she has worked in for over a decade. In addition to performing, she works as a dubbing teacher, instructing students on the techniques of voice acting. Mapula has stated that her approach to dubbing emphasizes the use of voice as the sole tool for emotional expression, distinguishing it from stage or on-camera acting where physical gesture also plays a role.
In anime, Mapula has voiced several characters in Latin American Spanish dubs. She is known for playing Sayako in the horror anthology series Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre. She also voices Urza Eksess in the fantasy series New Saga, a role produced by Artworks Digital Studio for the Crunchyroll platform. Another anime credit includes the role of Noriko in the 2024 remake of Ranma ½. Her work extends beyond animation, as she has also participated in dubbing for live-action series such as the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and the Korean drama When Life Gives You Tangerines, the latter of which she has cited as a particularly meaningful project.
Regarding recurring collaborations, the available information shows her participation in the Crunchyroll simuldub for New Saga under the direction of Óscar López Ávila at Artworks Digital Studio, but no pattern of repeated collaboration with specific directors or studios is documented. Notable achievements in her career include building a professional dubbing career in Mexico City after relocating from her home state of Sonora, as well as her work as an educator training new voice actors. She has expressed pride in representing her home region within the entertainment industry.
