Yoshiyuki Kōno

Yoshiyuki Kono is a Japanese voice actor born on May 21 and affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production. He is based in Tokyo and is a graduate of the Osaka University of Arts.

Kono has built a career that includes roles in anime series, video games, OVAs, and tokusatsu productions. His most frequently cited anime roles include Gilbert G.P. Guilford, the knight and loyal aide to Princess Euphemia li Britannia, in the series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and its sequel R2, as well as the film Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection. He is also recognized for voicing Yakon, a monster who serves the wizard Babidi, in the long-running series Dragon Ball Z. In Angelic Layer, he performed dual roles as both Shuji Inada and the Host. His other anime work includes roles in Jigoku Sensei Nube as Ishikawa-sensei, Yu-Gi-Oh! as several supporting characters including a teacher and a chairman, and Slam Dunk as the student Satoru Sasaoka.

In the field of video games, Kono is known for his long-running portrayals of two characters in Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi series: the flamboyant Wei general Zhang He and the Nanman king Meng Huo. He also provided voices for the fighting game Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer, playing the roles of Ball Boy and Marion. Kono's other video game credit includes the tactical role-playing game Der Langrisser, where he voiced the character Morgan. His work in OVAs includes the series Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer and Legend of Crystania.

Outside of animation and games, Kono has appeared in live-action tokusatsu productions, including an episode of Mirai Sentai Timeranger as the character Hacker Yuugento and an episode of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters as the monster Domeloid. He has also participated in drama CD productions such as Emerald Dragon. Throughout his career, Kono has frequently worked on series produced by the studio Sunrise (now Bandai Namco Filmworks) and has been a recurring cast member in franchises adapted from Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, notably Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Slam Dunk. His work in the Jigoku Sensei Nube and Angelic Layer franchises also shows a strong connection to the studio known as Studio Deen.
