Akira Ozaki
Description
Akira Ozaki is a Japanese manga artist known for creating shoujo manga series, typically handling both the story and artwork. Born on March 29 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Ozaki made a professional debut in 2003 with the short story Futari de Ikou, Issho ni Ikou, published in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine. Early career work included collections of short stories such as Ookami to Mitsubachi and Sayonara Rockin' Horse, both released in 2007. A notable shift in artistic identity occurred with the 2013 series Haru x Kiyo, when Ozaki began signing works using different kanji characters for the name Akira compared to earlier publications. Haru x Kiyo, which ran for nine volumes until 2016, became one of Ozaki's best-known works and received international publication outside Japan. Throughout the 2010s, Ozaki continued producing serialized shoujo manga, including Atashi no Bambi in 2011, Otagawa Junjo Lovers in 2013, and Tonari no Hoshi no Ouji-sama in 2016. The series Fushigi no Arisugawa-san began publication in 2016. For the manga Bushido Sixteen, which focuses on a girl practicing kendo, Ozaki contributed only the illustrations rather than the story. In 2020, Ozaki launched Uchi no Otouto-domo ga Sumimasen, a shoujo comedy series about a high school girl who becomes the older sister of four brothers after her mother remarries. This work follows Ozaki's established pattern of character-driven romantic comedies centered on high school relationships and family dynamics. Recurring themes across Ozaki's bibliography include tall or physically distinctive heroines, unexpected living situations, and the development of romance alongside personal growth. As a creator working within the shoujo demographic, Ozaki has maintained consistent publication with Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine over two decades.
