Keith David

Description
Keith David is an American actor whose extensive voice work includes several notable roles in Japanese anime, often referred to as anime dubbing. He is widely recognized for his deep, authoritative voice, which has made him a frequent choice for characters of significant power and complexity.

One of David's most acclaimed anime roles is Dr. Tenma in the 2023 Netflix anime series Pluto. This science fiction mystery series is a reimagining of a classic Astro Boy story arc. Dr. Tenma is a brilliant but tormented scientist, and David's performance was noted for bringing a three-dimensional emotional ambiguity to the character, moving him beyond a traditional villain archetype.

Prior to his work on Pluto, David had already established himself in the field of anime dubbing. His early career in this area includes the role of Okkoto, a powerful and tragic boar god, in the English dub of Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed film Princess Mononoke (1997). This role remains a significant entry in his filmography.

Beyond these specific anime credits, David's voice is a constant presence in Western animation and video games. He has starred as Goliath in Gargoyles, Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog, and King Andrias in Amphibia. His video game roles include the Arbiter in the Halo series and Captain David Anderson in the Mass Effect trilogy. David has also won three Emmy Awards for his work as a narrator on documentary series, including those directed by Ken Burns. More recently, he voices the character Husk in the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel.
