Mikio Date is a Japanese entertainer and voice actor born on September 5, 1974, in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. He is a native of Sendai and is a graduate of Sendai Commercial High School. While he has established a career in voice acting, Date is perhaps best known as the tsukkomi, or straight man, of the popular Japanese comedy duo Sandwich Man, a role that has made him a familiar presence on Japanese variety television.
In the field of anime and animated film voice work, Date has taken on several notable supporting roles. He provided the voice for King Arturia in the 2025 feature film Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Esekai Monogatari, a Doraemon adventure centered around a journey through the world of European Renaissance paintings. His earlier anime voice credits include the role of the chief priest in the 2015 animated film Chieri and Cherry and the role of the Kappa of Toyosawagawa in the 2021 film The House of the Lost on the Cape. In television anime, he has been credited in the series Soreike! Anpanman: Tobase! Kibou no Handkerchief.
Beyond purely animated works, Date has appeared in live-action television dramas. He is recognized for the role of Goro Kakuta, also listed as Gakuda Goro, in the 2008 Fuji TV series 81diver, which is based on a manga about the world of competitive Japanese chess known as shogi. He has also appeared in ensemble casts for live-action films, including a role in the romantic drama Little Nights, Little Love from 2019.
Due to his primary career as a comedian, his voice acting work often coincides with his media appearances as a celebrity. He is also known to be the uncle of fellow voice actress Sayuri Date.
