Sui Futami

Description
Sui Futami, known in Japanese as 双見酔 (Futami Sui), is a Japanese manga artist and original creator who has contributed a number of original works to both manga and anime. The creator runs the doujinshi circle "Shimarisaka Michi" and has been active in the industry since at least the mid-2000s, with an early work tied to the Ragnarok Online franchise appearing in 2006. Futami is best known as the original creator behind the anime series Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara (also known as I've Had Enough of Being a Magical Girl), which first aired in January 2016, and its sequel, Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara Second Season, which followed in October 2016. Both anime adaptations were based on the original manga of the same name, which Futami authored. In addition to this series, another of Futami's manga works, Dungeon no Naka no Hito (released in English as Dungeon People), was adapted into an anime that began airing in July 2024.

Beyond these adapted titles, Futami has created a diverse body of manga work. Notable original manga include Sekai Maou (World Demon King), Sora no Shita Yane no Naka (Under the Sky, Inside the Roof), Koi Tokidoki (Love Sometimes), and Suki Moyoi (Maybe Like You). Futami has also served as the original story author for Yotsukoto, with artwork provided by Nakaso Neko, demonstrating a capacity for collaboration beyond solo creation. Publishing credits span several major Japanese manga imprints, including Houbunsha, Futabasha, Earth Star Entertainment, and Jive. Thematically, Futami's work often operates within a slice-of-life framework, frequently incorporating gentle comedy and a tendency to subvert or approach familiar genre conventions—such as the magical girl genre—with a grounded, low-stakes sensibility. Within industry circles, Futami is respected for a clean narrative style and efficient visual storytelling, with a career that has successfully transitioned multiple original manga properties into television anime productions.
