Lisa Komaki
Description
Lisa Komaki is a retired Japanese actress and voice performer, primarily recognized for her foundational work in the Super Sentai franchise. Born on January 14, 1951 in Tokyo, Japan, she began her career in the entertainment industry in the early 1970s, making her acting debut with a semi-regular role on the police drama Hijō No License in 1973.
Komaki rose to fame with her portrayal of Peggy Matsuyama, also known as Momoranger, in the series Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, which aired from 1975 to 1977. This role was historically significant for being the first female Pink Ranger in the inaugural series of the long-running Super Sentai franchise. Her performance as a core member of the original five-hero team made her a popular children's idol in Japan.
Following the conclusion of Gorenger, Komaki continued her association with the tokusatsu genre in Battle Fever J, which began airing in 1979. For this series, she performed the voice of Diane Martin, the character of Miss America I. In addition to her voice role, she also served as the suit actor for Miss America for the first twelve episodes of the series, before an injury led to her replacement in that physical role. She continued to provide the character's voice for the remainder of Diane Martin’s tenure on the show, which lasted until the twenty-fourth episode.
Later in her career, Komaki was offered a role in the series Space Sheriff Sharivan in 1983 but declined, instead making a guest appearance as a different character later that same year before retiring from acting. For many years, she largely stepped away from the public eye, although she did appear at a cast reunion event for Himitsu Sentai Gorenger in August 2010. In 2017, she launched a reading theater company named Momoiro Senpu.
Beyond her on-camera and voice work, Komaki was also involved in stunt performance and action scenes, training with organizations responsible for suit actor choreography during her time on Gorenger. Her involvement in the series' action sequences contributed to her legacy as an early action heroine in Japanese television. She is recognized as a unique figure in the Super Sentai series for being the only actress involved with its first three installments in various capacities.
