Joachim Kerzel is a German actor, voice actor, and narrator born on December 10, 1941, in Hindenburg, Upper Silesia, which is now Zabrze, Poland. While he has worked extensively as an on-screen actor in German theater, film, and television since the 1960s, he is most widely recognized for his prolific and acclaimed career in voice acting and dubbing.

Within the realm of German-language dubbing for animated series and international films, Kerzel has brought several notable characters to audiences. He is the German voice of Sir Edmund Burton in the live-action film Transformers: The Last Knight. In the anime series Bunny Drop, also known as Usagi Drop, he provided the voice for Souichi Kaga in the fourth episode. He also served as the narrator, credited as Erzähler, for the Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie. Another significant role in animation was as the voice of Vul Kuolun in the classic science fiction anime series Captain Future.

Kerzel has achieved legendary status in German dubbing, becoming the standard German voice for numerous internationally acclaimed actors. For decades, he has been regularly heard dubbing Jack Nicholson, a role he first took on for the film The Witches of Eastwick, as well as Dustin Hoffman, Anthony Hopkins, Dennis Hopper, and Jean Reno. His proficiency extends beyond acting to directing, as he has led the German dialogue direction for projects such as the television series Twin Peaks and the film The Manchurian Candidate.

Throughout his career, Kerzel has received major industry recognition for his vocal work. He won the German Prize for Synchronization in 2003 for his lead role as Jack Nicholson in About Schmidt. In 2023, he was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the German Synchronpreis for his outstanding contributions to the field of dubbing.
