Akumi Agitogi is the original creator behind the My Happy Marriage franchise, which began as a light novel series and has since expanded into manga, anime, and live-action film adaptations. Agitogi originates from Nagano Prefecture in Japan and made their literary debut with My Happy Marriage, which was initially published online as a web novel on the user-generated site Shōsetsuka ni Narō before being acquired by Fujimi Shobo. The first volume of the light novel was released in print in January 2019 under the Fujimi L Bunko imprint, with illustrations by Tsukiho Tsukioka.

The creator is known for this single, highly successful work, which has been adapted into multiple formats. A manga adaptation illustrated by Rito Kohsaka began serialization in Square Enix’s Gangan Online service in December 2018, prior to the light novel’s print release, and has been published in several collected volumes. The story is set in an alternate version of the Taishō era, incorporating supernatural elements and focusing on the developing relationship between its protagonists, Miyo Saimori and Kiyoka Kudō.

Agitogi’s work has seen significant adaptation across media. An anime television series produced by Kinema Citrus premiered in July 2023, with a second season following in January 2025. A live-action film adaptation was released in Japan in March 2023. The creator’s artistic identity, as reflected in this series, centers on themes of emotional healing, slow-burn romance, and a narrative that combines historical drama with a Cinderella-inspired premise of a mistreated protagonist finding kindness and self-worth.
