Ichiha Akizuki
Description
Ichiha Akizuki is a manga artist known primarily for illustrating the manga adaptation of the mystery novel series Holmes of Kyoto. Akizuki’s most prominent work is the manga Holmes of Kyoto, based on the light novel series by Mai Mochizuki. This adaptation began serialization in Futabasha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Action in December 2017. The series later moved to the Web Action platform, with its run concluding in August 2025. Futabasha compiled the chapters into multiple tankobon volumes. The success of this manga adaptation contributed to the broader Holmes of Kyoto franchise, which also includes an anime television series that aired in 2018.
Beyond this high-profile adaptation, Akizuki has created original manga works. One such series is Shuugoku no Vanitas, a mystery manga serialized in the josei magazine ITAN from October 2015 to October 2017, with the story and art both credited to Akizuki. Earlier in their career, Akizuki contributed to various anthology projects. In 2008, they participated in Arcana - Shitsuji II, a themed oneshot anthology from Ichijinsha's Zero-Sum line, providing a short story titled Butler-Battle. Akizuki has also contributed to anthologies for popular media franchises, including Touken Ranbu and Diabolik Lovers. Other known early works include the one-shot Hakanakumo from 2012 and Kouboku no Keibu from 2010, on which Akizuki served as the artist.
The body of Akizuki's work reveals a focus on mystery-driven narratives. This is most evident in Holmes of Kyoto, which centers on an antique shop employee solving cases brought by clients, as well as in the original series Shuugoku no Vanitas. Akizuki's artistic identity is therefore closely tied to the mystery and suspense genres, with a significant portion of their professional output dedicated to adapting an existing novel series into a successful long-running manga. Through this work, Akizuki has become a key contributor to bringing the Holmes of Kyoto story to a wider audience of manga readers.
