Tarō Shigaki

Tarō Shigaki was a Japanese actor and voice actor born Minoru Kawamura on September 22, 1951, in Tokyo, Japan. He was a graduate of the Nihon University College of Art and was affiliated with the talent agency Oscar Promotion. Shigaki passed away on March 5, 2022.

While he maintained a career as a live-action actor beginning in 1969, Shigaki became particularly recognized for his voice performances in numerous classic anime films and series from the 1970s and 1980s. His contributions to the industry are defined by a series of notable roles in high-profile fantasy and drama productions.

One of his early and prominent voice roles was the Prince in the 1975 Toei Animation film Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. He voiced the dual role of Franz and Fritz in the stop-motion animated film Nutcracker Fantasy from 1979. That same year, he took on the role of André Grandier in the historical drama series The Rose of Versailles. In 1980, he voiced Soldier Blue in the film adaptation of the science fiction epic Toward the Terra. He continued working in animated fairy tale adaptations by providing the voice of Prince Siegfried in the 1981 film Swan Lake.

Later in his voice acting career, Shigaki portrayed the character Saki Vashtal in the Area 88 original video animation in 1985. His other anime voice credits include the role of Liu Bei in the 1982 film Sangokushi.
