Jo Anne Worley

Description
Jo Anne Worley is an American actress, comedian, singer, and voice artist known for her distinctive, powerful voice and work across television, film, and animation. Born on September 6, 1937, in Lowell, Indiana, she began her professional career as a member of the Pickwick Players and studied at the Pasadena Playhouse before gaining prominence on the comedy-variety series Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.

In the realm of Japanese animation, Worley is recognized for her voice role in the 1979 stop-motion fantasy film Nutcracker Fantasy. Produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, known for Hello Kitty, the film was directed by Takeo Nakamura and featured a Japanese-American production team. In this loose adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann's story and Tchaikovsky's ballet, Worley provided the voice for Queen Morphia, a two-headed rodent queen who serves as the film's primary antagonist and places a sleeping spell on a princess. The role required her to voice a character with two heads, showcasing her vocal range in a dark, atmospheric children's film.

Beyond her work in anime, Worley has an extensive career in Western animation and Disney productions. One of her most recognizable voice roles is the Wardrobe (Madame de la Grande Bouche) in Disney's 1991 animated feature Beauty and the Beast. She continued this role in subsequent Disney sequels and projects, including Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World. Her other Disney voice credits include Miss Maples in A Goofy Movie, Hoppopotamus on the animated series The Wuzzles, and roles in DuckTales and the television series Kim Possible. Her work has also appeared in animated series like Tom & Jerry Kids and The New Adventures of Popeye.

Worley has collaborated with a number of notable actors on voice projects. In Nutcracker Fantasy, she worked alongside Christopher Lee as Uncle Drosselmeyer, Melissa Gilbert as Clara, and Roddy McDowall as Franz. Her long association with Disney productions has led to repeated collaborations with that studio's voice talent roster. Throughout her career, she has maintained a presence in both live-action and voice acting, also appearing in films such as The Shaggy D.A. and guest-starring on television series like Boy Meets World and Wizards of Waverly Place.
