Charles Martinet

Description
Charles Martinet is an American actor best known for originating the voice of the iconic video game character Mario for Nintendo, a role he performed from the early 1990s until his retirement from that position in 2023. His extensive career in video games also includes voicing Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi, as well as characters in other major franchises such as Paarthurnax in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While his work in video games is his most famous contribution, Martinet has also lent his voice to several anime productions.

One of his most prominent anime roles is Magenta in the 2022 film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. In the English dub of this feature, Martinet voices the main antagonist, who is the ambitious and manipulative leader of the revived Red Ribbon Army and the son of the original Commander Red. Magenta serves as the primary force behind the film's plot, orchestrating the creation of the new android Cell Max. Prior to this major role, Martinet also made a brief appearance in an earlier anime adaptation, providing the voice of a pilot in the 1994 adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Beyond these dedicated anime projects, Martinet has performed in animated films with a global audience. In 2023, he voiced two characters in The Super Mario Bros. Movie: Giuseppe, an original character who appears early in the film, and Mario and Luigi's father. His career as a voice actor continues to be defined by his significant contributions to video games and his memorable supporting performances in animated features and anime.
