Hitoma Iruma

Description
Hitoma Iruma is a Japanese writer and light novel author born in 1986 in Gifu Prefecture. He began his professional career with the publication of his debut series, Usotsuki Mii-kun to Kowareta Maa-chan, in 2007, and has since become known for a diverse body of work that frequently serves as the source material for anime and manga adaptations.

Iruma is the creator behind several notable properties. He wrote the original light novel series Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl (Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko), which was published by ASCII Media Works under the Dengeki Bunko imprint from 2009 to 2011. The series received a manga adaptation and a 12-episode anime television series produced by Shaft that aired in 2011. Another significant work is Adachi and Shimamura, a yuri light novel series that began serialization in 2012 and is ongoing. The series has been adapted into two manga series and a 12-episode anime television series by Tezuka Productions, which aired from October to December 2020.

In addition to these, Iruma was the driving creative force behind the multimedia project Arata-naru Sekai, which was released in October 2012. For this project, he wrote the story for a manga, wrote the script for an original video animation produced by Madhouse, penned the lyrics for the accompanying music, and wrote a light novel, all as interconnected parts of a single science fiction narrative.

Beyond his own original series, Iruma has contributed to other properties. He wrote Regarding Saeki Sayaka, a three-volume light novel spin-off series of Nio Nakatani's acclaimed manga Bloom Into You. His works are frequently published under the Dengeki Bunko and Media Works Bunko imprints, with a significant portion of his bibliography being adapted into manga and anime formats.

Iruma’s works often explore the internal lives of characters navigating complex personal relationships and social alienation. Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl follows a high school boy dealing with his cousin, who believes herself to be an alien, touching on themes of escapism and reintegration into society. Adachi and Shimamura is a character-driven story centered on the slow, introspective development of a romantic relationship between two high school girls, highlighting themes of loneliness and emotional vulnerability. The Arata-naru Sekai project demonstrates his interest in speculative fiction, utilizing a science fiction framework to tell interconnected stories across different time periods. Iruma's consistent presence in the light novel industry since the late 2000s, combined with the repeated adaptation of his works into other media, establishes him as a significant and prolific figure in contemporary Japanese publishing and anime production.
