José Gilberto Vilchis Barrero, known professionally as Pepe Vilchis, is a Mexican voice actor, director, and musician born on February 10, 1977 in Mexico City. He comes from a family deeply involved in dubbing; his mother is voice actress Banny Barrero, and his late uncle was the renowned actor Jesús Barrero. His career in performance began at a young age with music and commercial work, but he transitioned into dubbing after his voice changed, encouraged by his uncle. To prepare for the industry, he studied theater, music, and radio and television production.

Vilchis began his dubbing career by voicing background characters before moving on to minor roles and eventually lead parts. One of his earliest and most significant anime roles was providing the voice of Andromeda Shun in the classic series Saint Seiya (known as Los Caballeros del Zodiaco). He has since become known for a wide range of characters in the medium. His other prominent anime roles include Neji Hyuga in Naruto, Kaien Shiba in Bleach, Matt Ishida in Digimon 02, Ryo Bakura in Yu-Gi-Oh, Kiyo Takamine in Zatch Bell, Van Fanel in The Vision of Escaflowne, and Zamas in Dragon Ball Super. More recently, he gained widespread recognition for voicing the popular character Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Beyond his work in anime, Vilchis has an extensive career dubbing live-action films and series. He is the recurring Spanish voice for multiple English-speaking actors, including Tom Hiddleston (notably as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Chris Pine, and Jon Bernthal. His notable roles in this field include Finn Hudson in Glee, Phil Wenneck in The Hangover trilogy, John Connor in Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation, and the title character in Donnie Darko. He has also voiced characters in animated series such as Uncle Grandpa and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

Throughout his career, Vilchis has participated in numerous fan conventions across Latin America, where he shares his experiences and perspectives on the dubbing industry. He has commented on the differences between dubbing Japanese anime and Western animation, noting the unique cultural context required for Japanese projects. His portrayal of the character Loki in Thor earned him an Auris award. His performance as Satoru Gojo has also been highly celebrated by fans, with tributes appearing in public spaces such as a memorial in a Santiago metro station.
