Description
Teiya Ichiryūsai is a Japanese voice actress, narrator, and kōdan (traditional Japanese storytelling) performer. She was born on February 2 in Ōita Prefecture, Japan, and is affiliated with the talent agency Aoni Production. She previously worked under the stage name Aya Hara before adopting her current name in 2007 when she began an apprenticeship in kōdan under the master Ichiryūsai Teika.
Her voice acting career began in the early 1990s following her graduation from the Aoni Juku training school. One of her early anime roles was Saori Kujo in the original video animation series Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again in 1992. She also voiced the Phantom of the Lake in an episode of Sailor Moon that same year and played the mother of the protagonist Mima in the acclaimed psychological thriller film Perfect Blue in 1997.
In the 2000s, under her former name Aya Hara, she gained recognition for her work in video games. She provided the voice for Krystal in the titles Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault, and voiced the character Robin, also known as Isaac, in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
After transitioning to the name Teiya Ichiryūsai, she has continued to take on a variety of roles in modern anime. She portrayed Watagaki's mother in the mystery series ODDTAXI in 2021. More recently, she voiced the character Honneko Garigari in the Studio Ponoc animated film The Imaginary, which was released in Japanese theaters in December 2023.
Beyond anime and video games, Teiya Ichiryūsai has a significant career as a narrator for television programs, including NHK's Information Kantō and NTV's Docchi no Ryori Show. Her skills also extend to traditional Japanese performing arts. She holds qualifications as a master of Ikuta-ryū koto and shamisen, and she has earned a second dan black belt in Gōjū-ryū karate. Her dedication to kōdan storytelling culminated in her promotion to the master rank of shin'uchi in October 2022.
