Andre Sogliuzzo
Description
André Sogliuzzo is an American voice actor and comedian born on August 10, 1966, in New York City, who has been active in the entertainment industry since 1993. He began his career working in New York theater before making his screen debut opposite Al Pacino in the 1996 documentary Looking for Richard. This early collaboration led to small roles in films such as Disney's Iron Will and Nora Ephron's You've Got Mail before he transitioned into voice acting, where he found extensive opportunities as a versatile character performer.
Within the realm of animation that is stylistically influenced by or produced in Japan, Sogliuzzo has several notable credits. He is well known for his work in Avatar: The Last Airbender, a series that, while produced in the West, draws heavily from the anime aesthetic. In this show, he voiced the recurring characters Hakoda, the father of Sokka and Katara, and the eccentric and powerful King Bumi, the ruler of Omashu. He also contributed to the Genndy Tartakovsky-directed Star Wars: Clone Wars, providing voices for numerous clone troopers and battle droids across eighteen episodes, and appeared in Samurai Jack as the characters Stitches and a taxi driver. More recently, he voiced Monsieur Mallah in My Adventures with Superman, another series with strong anime influences.
Sogliuzzo has a significant history with the Transformers franchise, appearing in both film and television installments. In the 2009 live-action film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, he provided the voice of the Autobot Sideswipe, a role for which he was instructed to make the character sound very cool without using a British accent. He later voiced the Decepticon Clawtrap in the animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise, appearing in five episodes of the show. His work in the franchise also extends to video games, including Transformers: Devastation, where he voiced Scavenger, Thundercracker, and other characters.
Beyond his anime and Transformers roles, Sogliuzzo has amassed an extensive list of credits across animation and video games. He has made numerous appearances on long-running adult animated series such as Family Guy and American Dad! and voiced the character Gaspar Le Gecko in the Disney series Brandy & Mr. Whiskers. In the video game industry, he has performed in close to a hundred titles. He is particularly known for voicing every male Khajiit character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, providing the voice of Tony Montana in the video game Scarface: The World Is Yours after being hand-picked for the role by Al Pacino, and voicing the character of Puss in Boots in the Shrek video game franchise. Another notable achievement came in 2004 when he was hired by Robert Zemeckis to voice the characters Smokey and Steamer in The Polar Express, replacing actor Michael Jeter following Jeter's death, and recorded remaining dialogue to complete the film.
