Márcia Morelli
Description
Márcia Morelli is a Brazilian voice actress and dubbing director born in Rio de Janeiro on November 25, 1964. She began her career in dubbing in 1990, starting with an internship at the now-defunct VTI Network. Her professional training included a theater course at a Rio de Janeiro college, followed by dubbing classes with Hamilton Ricardo and Chico José, who recommended her for the internship.
Morelli is recognized for her extensive work in anime dubbing. She is the voice of Sachiko Yagami, the mother of the protagonist Light Yagami, in the anime series Death Note. She also reprised this role for the live-action film Death Note: The Last Name. Another notable anime role is Madame Suliman, the king's powerful sorceress, in the Netflix redub of the Studio Ghibli film Howl's Moving Castle. Her other anime credits include Sra. Globular in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, Lapis Lazuli and Malachite in Steven Universe, Nadja Chamak in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, as well as roles in Digimon Tamers, Hamtaro, and Corrector Yui. She has also voiced characters in the DC animated universe, including Queen Hippolyta, Big Barda, and Harley Quinn.
In addition to her voice work, Márcia Morelli works as a dubbing director. She has discussed the responsibilities of a director, which include marking scripts, scheduling, casting actors, and guiding the recording session. She is the official Brazilian voice for actresses Melissa McCarthy, Cynthia Klitbo, and Victoria Ruffo. In an interview, she expressed a deep affinity for comedic roles and for dubbing telenovelas, noting the specific challenges of matching lip movements and the heightened intensity required for the Spanish-language format. Her philosophy on voice acting emphasizes transforming her voice for each character, stating that if the audience forgets they are listening to a dubbing, the work has been successful.
