Dan Lorge
Description
Dan Lorge is a former American voice actor known for his work on English dubs of anime series and films, particularly those produced in Los Angeles during the late 1990s and early 2000s. His career in voice acting is documented from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s, during which he contributed to numerous popular titles. Born on February 8, 1962 in Los Angeles County, California, Lorge has since retired from voice acting and currently teaches acting at Take 2 Performers Studio in Reno, Nevada.
Lorge is perhaps best recognized as the English voice of Inspector Koichi Zenigata in the long-running Lupin the 3rd franchise. He voiced the character in the Geneon dub of Lupin the 3rd Part II as well as the film Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo. This role stands as one of his most significant and recurring performances. In addition to his work on Lupin the 3rd, Lorge was a prolific contributor to the Digimon franchise, providing voices for multiple characters across several series. His Digimon roles included Monzaemon and WaruMonzaemon in Digimon Adventure, as well as Chikara Hida, Seadramon, and Deputymon in Digimon Adventure 02. He also voiced characters in Digimon Tamers and Digimon Frontier, such as Shiyunsuke Kitagawa and Airdramon.
His extensive anime filmography includes a role as Henya Kariwa and various additional voices in the Media Blasters dub of Rurouni Kenshin. He appeared as Hyper Mushra and Katai in the series Shinzo, which matches the role of Hiromaki the Seer in the anime Zenki. Lorge also had minor roles or provided additional voices for several other notable series, including Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, The Big O, Cyborg 009, and Serial Experiments Lain. His work extended to OVAs and films as well, including a role as Professor Shizuma in the Animaze dub of Giant Robo: The Animation and as a councilman in the Animaze dub of the landmark film Akira.
A recurring aspect of Lorge's career involves the use of pseudonyms. For a significant period, many of his roles were mistakenly credited to an actor named Dan Martin, leading to confusion about his body of work. This was further complicated by his use of the additional pseudonym Jake Martin, which aligns with the middle name of the other actor Dan Jacob Martin. Beyond his voice work in animation, Lorge also contributed to live-action films as part of automated dialogue replacement (ADR) casts, including the Hong Kong action film Police Story 4: Simple Task. His career as a voice actor appears to have concluded around the mid-2000s, with later roles primarily consisting of reprising established characters or work in video games such as Warriors Orochi 2.
