Description
Aka Akasaka, born on August 29, 1988, in Sado, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, is a Japanese manga artist, writer, and illustrator known for creating major manga franchises that have been adapted into popular anime series. After graduating from high school, he began his career by working as an assistant to established manga creators, including Jinsei Kataoka and Kazuma Kondou, the team behind Deadman Wonderland. He made his professional debut contributing background assets to the visual novel Wonderful Everyday in 2010, and his first serialized manga was an adaptation of the light novel Sayonara Piano Sonata, which ran from 2011 to 2012. His first original serialized work, ib: Instant Bullet, was published from 2013 to 2015.

Akasaka is best known as the creator of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, a romantic comedy manga that he both wrote and illustrated. The series was first serialized in Miracle Jump in 2015 before moving to Weekly Young Jump in 2016, where it ran until 2022. The work became a significant commercial and critical success, being the ninth best-selling manga of 2019 in Japan and winning the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category in 2020. The franchise was adapted into a highly successful anime television series, including the sequels and specials Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2, Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic-, and the anime film Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai. Following the conclusion of Kaguya-sama, Akasaka announced in November 2022 that he would retire from drawing manga to focus exclusively on writing stories. His subsequent major works have seen him serve as the writer in collaborations with other artists. He co-created Oshi no Ko with illustrator Mengo Yokoyari, which was serialized from 2020 to 2024 and also received an anime adaptation. He later wrote Renai Daikō with illustrations by Nishizawa 5mm, serialized from 2023 to 2024. His other creative contributions include providing character designs for the Vocaloid voicebanks IA and ONE, as well as illustrating several light novel series.
