He is affiliated with the talent agency Iwabuchi Group and has been active in the entertainment industry since his stage debut in 1977 with the play Ame. Nagae is a graduate of the Theatre Echo training school, having previously been a member of both Theatre Echo and the now-disbanded agency Satsukisha.
