Michiro Iida

Description
Michiro Iida is a Japanese actor and voice talent known primarily for his work in tokusatsu productions, the genre of live-action superhero series and films that often feature heavy use of special effects. Information about his career is largely documented through his voice roles in popular franchises from the 1980s.

Born on June 19, 1952, in Chiba, Japan, Iida began his on-screen career in the early 1980s. At a height of 1.88 meters, he occasionally appeared in live-action guest roles, such as Junichi Yamane in an episode of the Super Sentai series Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan in 1981.

However, Iida became best known for providing character voices, particularly within the Super Sentai and Metal Heroes franchises produced by Toei. One of his most significant roles was the voice of the titular hero in the 1987 series Choujinki Metalder. He voiced the android warrior Metalder across all thirty-nine episodes of the series and its theatrical film adaptation. The character was performed on-screen by suit actors, with Iida providing the character's voice.

His other notable voice roles in the Super Sentai series include the character Sheema (also spelled Shiima) in the 1985 series Dengeki Sentai Changeman. He voiced this role for the entire fifty-five episode run, as well as in two theatrical films, Dengeki Sentai Changeman: The Movie and Dengeki Sentai Changeman: Shuttle Base! The Critical Moment!. He also voiced the character Zuune in an episode of the same series the following year. In 1988, Iida provided the voice for Time Brain in an episode of Choujuu Sentai Liveman. His filmography also includes voice work as Hunter Killer in the Metal Heroes series Uchuu Keiji Sharivan in 1983, and as Dark Knight in Kagaku Sentai Dynaman.

Later in his career, Iida reportedly transitioned to stage acting, and his television appearances became less frequent. He is also listed in cast credits for the 1999 television special The Case Files of Tax Investigator Madogiwa Tarou 3 in a guest role. He is sometimes credited under the alternative kanji spelling of his name, 飯田道郎.
