Jean-Philippe Puymartin is a French actor and voice actor. He was born on December 18, 1959, and trained at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris before spending 14 years as a resident actor at the Comédie-Française, performing in numerous theatrical productions from 1981 to 1994.
He is highly active in the field of dubbing and is best known to international audiences as the regular French voice of actors Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise. Within animation and Japanese anime adaptations, Puymartin has taken on several key roles in French-language versions of popular series.
In the anime series Crying Freeman, Puymartin provided the voice for the protagonist, Yo Hinomura, also known as Freeman. He voiced the character in the original 1988 to 1989 anime adaptation, where the character is also referred to as Yoh Hinomura, Ron Tai-Yan, and Crying Freeman. He later reprised the role of Yo Hinomura for the French dub of the 1995 live-action film adaptation of Crying Freeman, once again dubbing actor Mark Dacascos in the title role.
Puymartin was also part of the French voice cast for the classic anime series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. He voiced the character Sven in the early episodes of the French dub, which was produced at Studio SOFI. Additionally, he performed as a replacement voice for the character Hunk and also provided voice work for the character Prince Lotar.
