Shōzō Fukuyama
Description
Shōzō Fukuyama was a Japanese actor whose career included work in both live-action film and television as well as voice acting. He was born on February 3, 1929, and active in the entertainment industry until his death on October 2, 1996. He is sometimes credited under alternative name readings such as Shozo Fukuyama, Masuzo Fukuyama, or the romanization Zousan Fukuyama.
Fukuyama is recognized for his role as Kyūroku Ōgeta in the 1974 film Lupin III: Strange Psycho-Kinetic Strategy. This film is notable as the first live-action adaptation of the Lupin III manga series, functioning as an action comedy that blends physical comedy with a heist narrative. While the film is based on an anime and manga property, Fukuyama’s participation was as a cast member in a live-action production rather than as a voice actor for an animated series.
Beyond this film, his credited voice acting work includes providing the voice for the character Kurage Doubler in the television drama Uchuu Keiji Gavan. The majority of his on-screen appearances were in live-action jidaigeki, or period dramas, including long-running series such as Mito Komon, Ooka Echizen, and the television movie Joshou Ichidai Yaraideka!. He also appeared in feature films, including supporting roles in the 1970 war film Men and War and the 1962 drama A Wanderer's Notebook. His career spanned from the late 1950s through the mid-1990s, with most of his work concentrated in guest roles on popular Japanese television dramas.
