Fay McKay

Description
Fay McKay, born Fayetta Gelinas on August 10, 1930, in Manchester, New Hampshire, was an American entertainer whose career primarily centered on live performance and comedic singing rather than extensive voice acting work. She spent the majority of her professional life as a headlining act in Las Vegas, Nevada, performing at prominent venues such as The Dunes, the Landmark, and the Stardust. Before establishing herself in Las Vegas, she won the Ted Mack Amateur Hour award in 1951 and toured with the show's group of winners. She also worked as an opening act for the renowned pianist Liberace. Her work in television included appearances on national talk shows like The Mike Douglas Show, The Dick Cavett Show, and The Merv Griffin Show.

McKay is best known for her comedic song parodies, particularly The Twelve Daze of Christmas, a routine in which she portrays a progressively intoxicated singer whose true love gifts her various alcoholic beverages. She released two albums, A-Live at the Dunes and Winter Favorites, which document this style of performance.

Within the context of anime, Fay McKay is recognized for a single, specific voice acting credit. She provided the English voice for the character Maetel in the 1980 English-language dubbed version of the anime film Galaxy Express 999. This dub was produced by Roger Cormans New World Pictures and represented the first theatrical distribution of an anime film in North America. The English voice cast for this version included McKay as the mysterious Maetel, B.J. Ward as the protagonist Tetsuro Hoshino, Tony Pope as Captain Harlock, and Corey Burton as the Conductor. This role constitutes McKays only known credit as a voice actor in anime or animation. Aside from this single performance, there are no records of recurring collaborations with specific directors, studios, or other voice actors within the anime industry. She died in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 4, 2008, at the age of 77.
