Mark Britten

Description
Mark Britten is an American voice actor and stand-up comedian known for his work on the English dub of the Dragon Ball anime series during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Based in Texas, he began his entertainment career as a comedian, performing at clubs from the age of seventeen and later touring nationally. His entry into voice acting came through an open audition at Funimation Studios in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1999, where his ability to perform a wide range of vocal impressions led to being hired on the spot.

Britten is best recognized for providing voices for multiple characters in the original Funimation English dubs of Dragon Ball Z and related films. His most prominent roles from that period include Korin, the wise feline guardian of the Senzu Beans, featured in Dragon Ball Movie 3: Mystical Adventure and Dragon Ball Z: Cooler's Revenge. He also voiced the Ox-King, the giant father of Chi-Chi, in Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks and various episodes of the Dragon Ball Z television series. Beyond these, his other credited characters in the series include Oolong, Burter, Grand Kai, Moori, Bubbles, Gregory, the Otherworld Tournament Announcer, and Rings, among others. In total, he created the voices for roughly seven distinct characters for the Dragon Ball Z franchise during his tenure at Funimation.

In later re-releases and remastered box sets of the Dragon Ball series, many of his vocal performances were re-dubbed by other actors from Funimation. For example, his role as Oolong was later voiced by Bradford Jackson, Burter and Korin were re-dubbed by producer Chris Sabat, and Gregory was taken over by John Burgmeier. The role of Grand Kai was one of the parts he retained. Britten's career reflects a collaboration with Funimation and voice director Christopher Sabat, who was impressed by his audition and cast him in the series.

In addition to his voice acting, Mark Britten continues to perform as a touring stand-up comedian under the stage name KidWok, having previously performed as The Chinaman. He makes regular appearances at comic conventions and comedy clubs across the United States, where he often discusses his time working on Dragon Ball Z.
