Description
Kazasa Sumita is a Japanese manga artist known for illustrating action-focused series, often in collaboration with separate writers. Born on June 28, 1976, in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, Japan, Sumita's professional career includes both original creations and adaptations of existing properties. Sumita is most widely recognized as the illustrator of the manga Killing Bites, which began serialization in the magazine Monthly Hero's in November 2013. For this series, Sumita collaborated with writer Shinya Murata, who is credited for the story while Sumita provided the artwork. Killing Bites, a seinen action manga about underworld duels between human-animal hybrids, was later adapted into a twelve-episode anime television series by Liden Films that aired from January to March 2018. Sumita was also credited for the anime's original concept as the manga's illustrator.
Prior to Killing Bites, Sumita worked on the manga Witchblade Takeru, which was published in two volumes in 2008. This series was based on the Witchblade property, with Sumita handling the artwork while writer Yasuko Kobayashi wrote the story. Other earlier works attributed to Sumita include Flower Claw from 2005, which Sumita both wrote and illustrated, as well as Kamigariki from 2009 and Edo of the Dead from 2013.
Sumita has continued to collaborate with writer Shinya Murata beyond Killing Bites. In June 2023, the pair launched a new manga series about a reincarnated demon lord titled Saikyō Skill "Inochigoi" de Kuyashii kedo Musō Shichau Moto Ōsama no Sekai Seifuku Katsudō. Sumita also created a spin-off of Killing Bites centered on the character Inaba, titled Hoshigarisugi Desho!? Inaba-san, which ran from August 2020 to December 2022. As an artist, Sumita's body of work is characterized by long-running action series often produced in partnership with separate writers, establishing a professional identity as a collaborative illustrator within the manga industry.
