Consuelo Pizarro
Description
Consuelo Pizarro is a Chilean voice actress recognized for her work in Latin American Spanish dubbing, particularly for her role as the new voice of Conan Edogawa in the anime series Detective Conan. She began her career in dubbing after completing her university education and working in theater. Her mother initially suggested she pursue voice acting, and after being persuaded to try it, Pizarro found that she loved the craft from the very beginning. At the time of an interview in 2015, she had been working in dubbing for ten years.
Pizarro is best known for taking over the role of Conan Edogawa in the Detective Conan franchise starting from episode 124 of the series, which aired on the Chilean channel ETC TV. She was cast as Conan after a casting process for the third Detective Conan movie, Case Closed: The Last Wizard of the Century, also known as El Mago de Fin de Siglo. After she was selected for the film, the production team found that no other actress convinced them as much for the television series, so they proposed that she continue working with them. In her portrayal, she did not aim to imitate the previous voice actress but instead based her interpretation on the original Japanese voice, aiming to capture the character's dual nature. She paid particular attention to changing her voice between the childish tone Conan uses to maintain his cover and the more mature internal thoughts of Shinichi Kudo, the high school detective trapped in a child's body. The dubbing for Detective Conan began at the studio Sudamerican Voices in 2012. Pizarro has described understanding the psychological complexity of a man in a child's body as an interesting challenge. In addition to the television series, she voiced Conan in related films and crossovers.
Beyond her signature role, Consuelo Pizarro voiced Nana Mishima in the sports anime series The Knight in the Area, known in Spanish as El caballero del área. Her other notable voice roles include Rubble in the children's series Paw Patrol, Brian in Es Pony, Rintoo in Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, Roary in Roary the Racing Car, Louie in the series of the same name, Bruno in Dinotren, Tiger in WordWorld, Nonny in Bubble Guppies, Fred Fieltro in Blue's Clues & You, and Pinto in Octonauts. She also performed additional voices for the Latin American Spanish dubs of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and voiced the young tiger in the film Panda Kopanda.
Pizarro has expressed deep affection for the character of Conan Edogawa and considers dubbing to be a branch of acting that she loves, hoping to dedicate herself to it for her entire life as part of her growth as an actress. She is also a coaching professional at Sudamerican Voices.
