Akihiro Miwa, born Akihiro Maruyama on May 15, 1935, in Nagasaki, Japan, is a Japanese singer, actor, and author who has taken on select voice acting roles in animated films. His work in anime is closely tied to celebrated director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. In 1997, Miwa provided the voice for Moro, the wolf goddess, in the animated feature Princess Mononoke. He later voiced the Witch of the Waste in Miyazaki’s 2004 film Howl’s Moving Castle. In 2009, he joined the cast of the long-running Pokemon film series, voicing the powerful mythical Pokemon Arceus in Arceus and the Jewel of Life. His earlier voice work includes the character Froy in the 1983 anime film Harmagedon. These roles represent his major contributions to the medium of anime voice acting, with recurring collaborations notably including the films of Hayao Miyazaki.
