Petrea Burchard

Petrea Burchard is an American actress best known as the original English voice of the space pirate Ryoko Hakubi from the Tenchi Muyo! anime franchise. She is sometimes credited under the name Celeste Burch for her anime work.

Burchard began her acting career on stage, performing with prominent theater companies including Chicago's Second City and Victory Gardens theaters. She studied Shakespeare at the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory and with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company at the British/American Drama Academy. Her stage credits include leading roles in Antony and Cleopatra and Titus Andronicus, and she originated roles in several plays by James Sherman. In addition to voice work, Burchard has appeared in live-action television series such as ER, The West Wing, How I Met Your Mother, and The Young and the Restless, as well as the film Death Becomes Her.

Within anime, Burchard is most recognized for her portrayal of Ryoko across multiple Tenchi Muyo! productions. She voiced Ryoko in the original Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OVA series, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, the movies Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love, Tenchi the Movie 2: The Daughter of Darkness, and Tenchi Forever: The Movie. She also voiced Zero in Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki. Her work in the franchise includes the role of Ryoko Orikasa in the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy OVA series. Her additional anime credits include a role in Serial Experiments Lain.
