Fabio Camillacci
Description
Fabio Camillacci is an Italian voice actor, journalist, radio speaker, and television host born in Rome on December 29, 1967. His career in media began in 1989, and he has worked for numerous Italian broadcasters including Rai, RDS, TMC2, and 7Gold. He is currently active with Radio Cusano Campus and Cusano Italia TV.
Camillacci entered the world of voice dubbing in the mid-1990s. His mentor was Teo Bellia, a colleague at RDS who encouraged him to pursue voice work after recognizing the quality of his voice. Early in his dubbing career, he worked with dubbing directors Daniela Poggi and Paola Tedesco. He initially struggled with the technical demands of matching lip movements for acting roles but found greater success performing parts that aligned with his real-life profession, such as journalists, sportscasters, and radio or television announcers.
His breakthrough in dubbing came in 2005 when he was contacted by dubbing director Fiamma Izzo. She needed a voice with a classic journalistic quality for a role in Steven Spielberg’s film Munich, where he voiced a news reporter providing off-screen commentary. This role opened the door to many subsequent opportunities. His other notable film dubbing credits include American Gangster, Goal 2, State of Play, Leatherheads (In amore niente regole), The Dilemma, Red Lights, Il caso Tortora, Cruella, The Tomorrow War, Full Time, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Within the specific field of anime and animated series, Camillacci is best known for being the official Italian voice of Kent Brockman, the news anchor on The Simpsons. He was selected for this role in 2022 following the death of the character’s previous voice actor, Federico Neri. He auditioned for the part through a casting process conducted by Mediaset in collaboration with the Izzo sisters’ dubbing company, Pumais Due, and began voicing the character starting with the show’s thirty-third season. He has described his surprise and joy at being chosen for the role, noting that his background as a real-life journalist gave him an advantage in auditioning for a character who is a television anchorman.
While his most prominent anime role is Kent Brockman in The Simpsons, he has also performed in other animated projects. In the live-action film adaptation of the series Death Note released in 2017, he provided the Italian voice for a character listed as Reporter. His other voice roles in live-action productions often include similar character types, such as a TV reporter at a peace summit in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a BBC presenter in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and a sportscaster in Leatherheads.
Camillacci maintains a recurring professional relationship with the Izzo family, particularly Fiamma Izzo and Paola Tedesco, who have directed much of his dubbing work over the years. He has stated that dubbing is not his primary occupation, as he continues to work primarily as a journalist and broadcaster. He has also expressed pride in his son Marco, who is also a performer and was a finalist for the Premio Tonino Accolla, an award named after the celebrated Italian voice actor known for dubbing characters such as Homer Simpson.
