Makoto Hoshino is a Japanese manga artist and anime director. As a manga creator, Hoshino is best known as the writer and illustrator of the fantasy series The Tale of Outcasts, known in Japanese as Nokemono-tachi no Yoru. This manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from August 2019 to April 2021, and its chapters were compiled into eight tankobon volumes. The series is licensed for an English-language release in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. In addition to the original series, Hoshino is also the author of a sequel manga titled The Tale of Outcasts: The Flame Knight.
