Hikari Mitsushima

Description
Hikari Mitsushima is a Japanese actress and former singer who has also built a career as a voice actor for anime and animated features. Born on November 30, 1985, in Okinawa, Japan, she first entered the entertainment industry as a teen idol, debuting in 1997 as a member of the J-pop groups Folder and later Folder 5. Her early exposure to the anime world came through her music career, as the Folder 5 single Believe was used as a theme song for the popular series One Piece. This initial connection to the industry preceded her later work as a voice actress.

While Mitsushima is primarily acclaimed for her extensive work in live-action film and television, she has taken on several notable voice roles. Her voice acting credits span both film and television animation. In 2016, she voiced the character Carina in the feature film One Piece Film Gold. This role marked her entry into a major anime franchise with which she already had a history through her music.

In 2017, she provided the voice for the Red-Haired Witch in the Studio Ponoc animated film Mary and the Witch's Flower. The same year, she also began her work on the NHK anime program I Love Me (Ai Rabu Mii), where she has a regular voice acting role as a cast member.

Her more recent voice work includes the 2025 anime Cocoon (subtitled Aru Natsu no Shōjo-tachi Yori or From the Girls of a Summer), a production by NHK based on the manga by Machiko Kyō. In this anime, she voices the character Mayu. The story centers on two schoolgirls, San and Mayu (voiced by Mitsushima), whose lives are drastically altered by the realities of war. Also in 2025, she took on the voice role of a young Nana Nagata in the series The Last Blossom.

Mitsushima's approach to voice work is informed by her extensive background as an award-winning actress. She has received numerous accolades for her live-action performances, including multiple Japan Academy Film Prize awards and the Tokyo International Drama Festival Award for Best Actress, which contributes to her skill in bringing animated characters to life. In addition to acting, she has remained active in music, launching her own label, Rhapsodies, in 2023. Her voice acting career continues alongside her ongoing work in live-action films, television dramas, and music.
