Douglas Welbat is a German voice actor, screenwriter, and producer born on April 25, 1957, in West Berlin. He is the son of actor Alexander Welbat. After completing his secondary education in 1975, Welbat undertook three years of acting training under director Karl Paryla. His career in performance spans several decades, with work encompassing dubbing for film and television, audio book narration, radio drama, and on-camera acting roles in series such as Tatort and Die Schwarzwaldklinik.

Within the specific field of anime, Welbat is recognized for providing German voice dubbing in two notable animated series. He performed the German voice of Gan-chan, a rat character known for his unwavering devotion to the goddess Belldandy, in the series The Adventures of Mini-Goddess. This series is a comedic spin-off of the larger Oh My Goddess! franchise. Welbat also took on the role of the German voice for the title character in the anime series Sherlock Hound, which originally aired from 1984 to 1985. In this series, which reimagines Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective stories with an anthropomorphic dog cast, Welbat voiced the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes.

Beyond his anime work, Welbat has a substantial career in German dubbing for international live-action productions. He has been the German voice for actors including Stellan Skarsgård, whom he began dubbing more consistently in 2022, Rolf Lassgård as Kurt Wallander, and James Gandolfini.
