Shiori Ōta

Description
Shiori Ōta is a Japanese novelist and manga creator, best known as the author of the mystery light novel series Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru. This series, published under Kadokawa Shoten's Kadokawa Bunko imprint, serves as the original work for the anime and live-action television series Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation. Ōta was born on March 8, 1978, in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, and is a member of the Mystery Writers of Japan.

Ōta's most significant and well-documented work is the Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru series. The first volume was published in February 2013, and the series concluded with its seventeenth main volume in March 2021. A spin-off volume was released in May 2022. The series achieved commercial success, with over one million copies in print and was adapted into multiple formats. A manga adaptation, also credited to Ōta as the writer with illustration by Tō Mizuguchi, was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine from August 2015 to December 2017.

The anime television adaptation of Ōta's work was produced by the studio Troyca and aired in Japan from October to December 2015, spanning 12 episodes. This was followed by a live-action television drama adaptation that aired on Fuji TV from April to June 2017. Through this series, Ōta established herself as a creator within the mystery genre, with a focus on forensic and investigative themes centered on the unique premise of an osteologist protagonist.

Beyond the Sakurako series, Ōta has written other novels, including works in the healing novel genre such as Das kleine Café der zweiten Chancen and Das kleine Café der magischen Minuten, which are available in German translation. However, the Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru series remains her primary contribution to anime and manga media and her most recognized work in the industry.
