Description
Eric Vaessen was a German actor and voice actor whose work included providing German dubbing voices for several anime series and films. He was active in the German entertainment industry for many decades, with a career that spanned live-action film and television roles, as well as extensive voice work for dubbing and audio dramas. Within the anime industry, Vaessen is recognized for his contributions to German-language localizations of Japanese productions during the late twentieth century.

One of Vaessen's confirmed anime roles is Dr. Meisel in the 1998 film Spriggan, which was released with a German dub in 2002. In addition to this film, he lent his voice to characters in several anime television series. He played the role of Mr. Shadowwick in the series Raccoon Rascal, known in German as Waschbär Rascal. He also voiced the character of Priester in the series Romeo and the Black Brothers, which is known in German as Romeo und die schwarzen Brüder. These roles place his anime voice acting work primarily within the German dubbing industry during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Beyond his specific anime credits, Vaessen had a long and varied career as a voice actor. He was the German voice for Ben Matlock, played by Andy Griffith, in the television series Matlock, and voiced Commissioner Hurst in several of the Police Academy films. He also performed voice roles for numerous audio drama series. He was well known for playing Miraculix, the German name for Getafix, in the Asterix audio drama series produced by Europa, and took on the role of Theodor Tierlieb in the long-running Benjamin Blümchen series. His film dubbing work also included providing voices for actors such as Denholm Elliott in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and William Newman in Mrs. Doubtfire.
