Masaaki Satake
Description
Masaaki Satake is a Japanese former martial artist who transitioned into voice acting, bringing his fighting background to a small but notable collection of anime roles in the 1990s and early 2000s. He was born on August 17, 1965, and built a career as a super heavyweight karateka, kickboxer, and mixed martial artist, eventually becoming one of the pioneering heavyweight fighters in the K-1 organization before turning to voice work.
Satake is best recognized for his role as Joe Higashi, the kickboxing champion and friend to Terry Bogard, in the 1992 anime television special Battle Fighters: Garō Densetsu, known in English as Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf. This OVA, based on SNK's popular fighting game franchise, marked his entry into voice acting and remains his most famous credit.
In 1994, he appeared in the original video animation Grappler Baki: The Ultimate Fighter, a film adaptation of Keisuke Itagaki's martial arts manga. In this production, Satake voiced a character credited simply as the Trainer. The following year, in 1995, he took on the role of Kiyonori Hariu in an episode of the mystery anime series The Files of Young Kindaichi.
His later voice work includes a role in the 2003 Super Sentai series Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, where he provided the voice for the monster character Trinoid 2: Hiruindou. While his voice acting portfolio is relatively small, Satake's involvement in martial arts-themed anime is fitting given his athletic background. He also contributed musically to the anime world, performing a song for the series Cross Road.
