Germana Dominici
Description
Germana Dominici, born in Palermo, Italy on December 1, 1946, was an Italian actress who built a substantial career as a voice dubbing artist. She was the second child of noted actor and voice actor Arturo Dominici. Dominici began her voice dubbing work in the 1960s with Cooperativa Doppiatori Cinematografici and later joined the dubbing company Gruppo Trenta in 1982. She retired from her professional activities in 2012 and passed away in Rome, Italy on January 3, 2024, at the age of 77.
Dominici is best remembered by anime enthusiasts for two particularly memorable antagonist roles. She provided the Italian voice for the villainous Marchesa Yanus in the series Il Grande Mazinga, based on the Japanese anime Great Mazinger. Her other signature anime role, as requested, was providing the voice of Fujiko Mine in the first Italian dubbing of the classic film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. This initial dubbing was produced for Italian television in 1984, several years after the film's original 1979 release in Japan. It is important to note that this specific Italian-language version represents only one of several dubbings of the film, as later home video releases featured different voice actors for the character of Fujiko Mine.
Beyond her focused contributions to anime, Dominici had a prolific career dubbing live-action cinema, where she lent her voice to numerous well-known international actresses including Bette Midler, Vanessa Redgrave, Kim Novak, and Catherine Deneuve. She also appeared on-screen as an actress in several films, working with directors such as Federico Fellini and Lamberto Bava.
