Toshiya Ogata

Toshiya Ogata, also credited under the name Toshiya Ogata (緒方俊也), was a Japanese voice actor and actor active from the 1950s through the 1980s. His career was primarily focused on voice work for anime and dubbed foreign films. He was born on October 14, 1922.

One of Ogata's earliest and most recognized anime roles was the character Green in the 1965 series Uchū Shōnen Soran. Beyond this part, his filmography includes a variety of supporting and guest roles in numerous classic anime productions from the 1960s. In the 1968 anime Akane-chan, he voiced the character Papa. That same year, he took on multiple roles in the 1968 GeGeGe no Kitarō, where he is best known for voicing Tantanbō, as well as providing the voices for numerous other characters including Miage-Nyūdō, Suiko, and various supporting figures such as doctors, detectives, and fathers.

He also contributed to several other landmark series of the era. In the original 1963 Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom), he played the character Dr. Balibari, and he returned to the franchise for the 1980 Astro Boy series as Zakuro. His other notable voice credits from 1968 include roles as Boss in Cyborg 009 and as Yamakawa in Sabu to Ichi Torimono Hikae.

Throughout his career in the late 1960s, Toshiya Ogata regularly collaborated with a number of prominent voice actors and creators. He frequently worked alongside actors such as Ichirō Nagai, Kei Tomiyama, Osamu Ichikawa, and Jōji Yanami, appearing with them in multiple projects like Cyborg 009, Astro Boy, and Akane-chan. He also worked with the screenwriter Masaki Tsuji on several series. He was active in both television drama and voice acting, with his work including dubbing for international films such as the 1970 film The Strategic Army Corps (戦略大作戦) and the 1951 film The Green Years.
