Takemachi
Description
Takemachi is the author and creator of the Japanese light novel series Spy Classroom, which has since expanded into a manga and anime franchise. The light novel series, illustrated by Tomari, began publication on January 18, 2020, under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint of Fujimi Shobo. As of October 2024, the series includes twelve main volumes along with five short story collections. The story is set in a post-war world where conflicts are waged by spies and follows a team of young female agents, all considered washouts, who are trained by a legendary spy named Klaus to carry out an impossible mission with a ninety percent chance of failure.
The success of the light novel led to a manga adaptation, which began serialization on May 27, 2020, in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine. The first part of the manga was illustrated by Kaname Seu, and its chapters have been compiled into multiple tankōbon volumes. Due to the popularity of the property, additional manga parts were launched, with a second part illustrated by Benishake and a third part illustrated once again by Kaname Seu, both beginning serialization in June 2022.
An anime television series adaptation produced by the studio Feel was broadcast in two seasons. The first season aired from January to March 2023, and the second season followed from July to September 2023, for a total of 24 episodes. The story and characters created by Takemachi form the foundation for all these adaptations, with the creator receiving original story credit for the various manga versions and serving as the source material author for the anime. The series has been licensed for English-language release by Yen Press.
