K.T. Gray
Description
K.T. Gray, also known as Katherine T. Gray or Katie Gray, is an American voice actress and musician recognized for her work in English-language dubs of anime. Born on November 23, 1981 in Washington, D.C., Gray was raised in Michigan before relocating to Los Angeles in 2000 to study stage performance and pursue a career in acting.
Gray's most significant and defining voice role is that of Seras Victoria, a British police officer turned vampire, in both animated adaptations of the Hellsing series. She first voiced the character in the original Hellsing television series and later reprised the role for Hellsing Ultimate, the original video animation series that more closely follows the plot of the manga. Her performance as Seras Victoria became her breakout work and remains the role for which she is best known. Regarding the character, Gray has described Seras as initially fragile, innocent, and naive before being thrust into the world of monsters, noting that her transformation triggers buried traumatic memories while also giving her the strength to fight back.
Beyond her work on Hellsing, Gray provided additional voice work for the anime studio Geneon. Her other credited anime roles include Yoshino Shinzaike in I My Me! Strawberry Eggs and Julia in an episode of Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. She also appeared in minor live-action roles on several popular television series early in her career, including Friends, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Felicity.
In addition to her voice acting career, Gray is an accomplished musician. She began learning guitar in 2005 and self-released her debut album, From Far Away, in 2006. Her song Set Free from that album was featured on the Fox television series Bones and received radio play on stations including Los Angeles-based KCRW and Seattle-based KEXP. Gray released her second album, Love Like Fire, in 2011. The following year, she formed a musical group called Sea Stars with collaborator Kurt Baumann, releasing an EP titled Zodiac followed by a full-length album, The Unknown, in 2013. Gray has performed or worked with acts including Band of Horses, Vicci Martinez, and Nightmares on Wax.
Gray has made appearances at anime conventions, including Sakura-Con 2007 held in Seattle, Washington, where she interacted with fans of her work on Hellsing.
