Rie Iwatsuba
Description
Rie Iwatsubo is a former Japanese voice actor and singer born on January 28, 1963, in Tokyo, Japan. She began her career in the early 1990s and remained professionally active until approximately 2004, when she ceased taking on new roles. While there has been no official announcement of her retirement, the absence of subsequent work has led to a widespread understanding that she has left the industry. During her active years, she was affiliated with the talent management firm Production Baobab.
Iwatsubo made her debut as a voice actor in 1991, providing the voice for Haruka Amano in the series The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird. In the same year, she began voicing two of her most recognized characters in the series Matchless Raijin-Oh: the main character Asuka Tsukishiro and the role of Yoko Kuriki. The role of Ryoko Gojou in the series Red Baron is another notable example of her work from this era. Throughout the 1990s, she built a diverse portfolio of roles across various genres. Her other significant anime credits include the dual role of Risky and Safety in Omishi Magical Theater Risky Safety, Koharu in Inuyasha, Kotetsu Oosawagi in Urayasu Tekkin Kazoku, and the recurring role of Denbo in the long-running children's anime Prince Mackaroo. She also appeared as Kid in the Kanipan series, Honoka Kawai in Magical Project S, and Kozaru in Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl.
Beyond her work in Japanese anime, she contributed to Japanese-dubbed versions of international productions, including the films The Secret Garden and A League of Their Own. She frequently collaborated with director Akitarō Daichi, appearing in several of his notable productions. In addition to voice acting, Iwatsubo was also a singer and performed theme songs for several anime series, including for the show Idol Project. Following her departure from the industry, her ongoing roles in long-running series and video games, such as Denbo in Prince Mackaroo and Asuka Tsukishiro in the Super Robot Wars video game series, were subsequently taken over by other voice actors.
