Grace Zandarski

Grace Zandarski is an American voice actor, actor, and respected voice teacher, best known in anime for providing the English voice of Achika Masaki in the 1996 film Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi Muyo in Love.

Her career in performing arts is complemented by a strong academic and theatrical background. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Princeton University and a Master of Fine Arts from the American Conservatory Theater. Her professional training also includes studying voice under Catherine Fitzmaurice and Nancy Houfek.

While her work in anime is primarily defined by her role as Achika Masaki, the mother of the series protagonist Tenchi, her broader acting career includes stage performances with notable theater companies across the United States. These credits include the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, the McCarter Theatre, the Wilma Theatre, and the American Conservatory Theater. Her voice acting extends to other media as well, including a role as Captain Brelaina in a video game.

Beyond her performance credits, Zandarski is highly accomplished as a vocal coach and educator. Since 2002, she has been a faculty member at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale, where she has taught voice and served as the Head of Voice and Text as well as Associate Chair of the Acting Program. Her coaching work in New York theater is extensive, with credits on Broadway productions including Mike Nichols staging of Death of a Salesman and Betrayal, as well as off-Broadway productions such as The Intelligent Homosexuals Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures at the Public Theater. In recognition of her expertise, she was named an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework in 1998, a certification program in which she was among the first to receive this designation.
