Takumi Toyoda
Description
Takumi Toyoda is a Japanese author best known as the creator of the light novel series Rail Wars!. His professional background includes a career in the video game industry before he transitioned to writing novels. Born in 1967 in Nara Prefecture, Toyoda graduated from university and joined the company Taito in 1990. During his time at Taito, he worked in the arcade game development department and later became the head of the advertising and publicity division for both consumer and arcade games. He eventually left the company to pursue a career as a novelist.
Toyoda is the author of the light novel series Rail Wars! (full title Rail Wars! Nihon Kokuyū Tetsudō Kōantai). The series began publication on January 16, 2012, and concluded with its 20th volume in December 2020. The first 13 volumes were published by Sohgeisha under their Sohgeisha Clear Bunko imprint, and the series moved to Jitsugyōnonihonsha starting with the 14th volume. The story is set in an alternate history where Japan's national railway system was never privatized, following a high school student who joins the railway security force. The light novel is illustrated by artist Vania 600.
The success of the original light novel led to multiple adaptations. A manga adaptation titled Rail Wars! Nihon Kokuyū Tetsudō Kōantai The Revolver, written by Toyoda and illustrated by Keiji Asakawa, was serialized in Mag Garden's Blade Online magazine from November 2012 to February 2015 and compiled into three volumes. An anime television series adaptation produced by the studio Passione aired in Japan from July to September 2014. Toyoda is credited as the original creator for these adaptations, with his role being the author of the source material. His professional identity is firmly rooted in his work as a writer of light novels, and there is no indication of a parallel career as a voice actor.
