Franziska Pigulla was a German actress, news presenter, and voice actress born on May 6, 1964, in Neuss, Germany. She passed away on February 23, 2019, in Berlin at the age of fifty-four. After graduating from high school, she studied German and English in Berlin before following in her father’s footsteps as an actor, taking acting lessons in Berlin and later in London. In London, she worked as a news presenter for the German language program of the BBC, and in 1990 she became a presenter for the German news network n-tv.
Pigulla became widely known for her distinctive, deep voice, which she lent primarily to dubbing American actresses in German versions of television series and films. Her most famous dubbing role was FBI Special Agent Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, on The X-Files. She also dubbed Demi Moore, Mercedes Ruehl, Téa Leoni, Sharon Stone, Robia LaMorte, and Naomi Campbell, among others. In the world of anime, Pigulla contributed to the German dubs of several series. She voiced Sakura Oogami in Danganronpa The Animation and Carrie in Kuromukuro. Beyond anime, she was known as the German voice of Nicole Collard in the Broken Sword video game series. She also worked extensively as a voice-over artist for documentaries, television reports, and advertising spots. As an audiobook narrator, she read works by Patricia Cornwell and Ken Follett; her narration of Ken Folletts novel Eisfieber received a gold award in an audiobook competition.
